Our house is named after the lighthouse, Skerryvore, whose light is visible from the house. The name comes from the Gaelic ‘sgeir’ meaning rock and ‘mhor’ meaning big. Skerryvore lighthouse was completed in 1844 by Alan Stevenson, and at 48m (156ft) is the UKs tallest and some would say most graceful lighthouse. It is built of granite from The Isle of Mull and took 6 years to build.
